Limited to 4 Students An intimate, structured introduction to the foundational movements, aesthetics, and philosophy of Japanese tea. This course is designed for adults seeking depth and disciplined study in a focused small-group setting. No prior experience required and Personal Tea Implements Included Each student receives a personal set of implements to use throughout the course and to keep for continued practice: • Fukusa (silk purification cloth) • Kaishi (sweets papers) • Kashikiri / Yōji (sweets pick) • Chasen (bamboo whisk) • Chawan (tea bowl) • Chashaku (tea scoop) These items form the foundation of individual practice and are integrated into weekly instruction. Course Progression Week 1 – Introduction to Tea & History Origins, cultural development, seasonal awareness, etiquette. Week 2 – Fukusa & Personal Implements Folding, handling, introduction to chakin. Week 3 – Warigeiko I Repetition of purification movements and rhythm. Week 4 – Warigeiko II Cleaning of chashaku and chawan with chakin; refinement of placement and intention. Week 5 – Introduction to Temae Structure Movement sequencing and spatial awareness. Week 6 – Matcha Preparation Whisking technique and bowl handling. Week 7 – Guest & Host Roles Receiving tea, appreciation, awareness of others. Week 8 – Guided Final Practice Students complete a simplified sequence with minimal prompting.
